Emily Haines playing with BSS, hung at Misshapes (with Iha)

EMILY @ MISSHAPES | 1/21/06
Emily Haines @ Misshapes

Thanks anonymous for pointing out that "Jimmy & Emily will be performing with Broken Social Scene in Park City, Utah at the Sundance Film Festival next week and at Webster Hall in NYC on Jan 26, 27 & 28."

And can someone tell me if Metric played Misshapes Saturday night? Someone told me they did (instead of just DJing like Tom Vek and Maximo Park did the two weeks prior), but according to a comment on Sheila m. Fuentes' Live Journal, "they ended up not showing." Misshapes photo gallery just has the photo of Emily you see above (that's her right?). Iha was there too (as usual).

Anyone know who's opening for Broken Social Scene at Webster Hall?

Posted by Anonymous | January 26, 2006 2:34 PM

Don't think there's any opening bands.

So clubgoers like me would like to know -what time will BSS take the stage tonight?

(BV - Webster Hall shows s/b Jan 26-28?)

Posted by drewo | January 26, 2006 2:36 PM

Yup that's her.
NYC gets Haines with BSS??
We didn't here in Toronto. Although Amy Milan and Feist were both present.

Enjoy the show kids!!

Damn, I just checked, and doors are at 6pm for the Friday and Saturday shows. No openers announced as far as I can tell. Will someone who makes it to the Friday show tell us Saturday folks what time they really hit the stage? Being at Webster is pain enough; let's cut down on the amount of money I'll have to drop on beer before the show!

Posted by Qbertplaya | January 26, 2006 3:08 PM

damn toronto and new york. the only bss show i have seen out here in the canadian prairies had no ladies. none. you have no idea how unimpressive it all was. my jealous heart hopes you guys enjoy the shows.

Posted by Karen | January 26, 2006 3:11 PM

toronto got a haines appearance at jason colletts show in dec though

Posted by Anonymous | January 26, 2006 3:27 PM

I called the box office. There are no openers, and BSS should be going on at 8:30 tonight. I'm assuming it'll be the same tomorrow and Saturday, except they'll go on at 7.

Posted by Dylan | January 26, 2006 3:36 PM

Thanks Dylan. 9PM it is.

Posted by drewo | January 26, 2006 3:58 PM

i was at misshapes until 3am and metric did not show. so we bailed. not sure if they played anytime after then.

Posted by omer | January 26, 2006 4:09 PM

how strict is webster about their 18+ policy. i will be so pissed if i do not get into this.

Posted by jason | January 26, 2006 4:49 PM

the bouncers at webster sure do look tough. i wouldn't want to mess with them.

Posted by Anonymous | January 26, 2006 4:52 PM

I heard that Metric showd up and was all "Fuck this!" and didn't even go inside except for the singer chick.

Posted by DisShapes | January 26, 2006 4:55 PM

I heard that BSS played Tufts University in Boston last night.

Posted by ashley | January 26, 2006 4:56 PM

You're not getting into Webster Hall if you're underage. Fact.

Posted by Anonymous | January 26, 2006 6:05 PM

Emily Haines showed up to misshapes and chilled in the dj booth for awhile...they played a nice enough remix of "Dead Disco" and she left shortly after. The music went downhill after she left, too, so she probably had some hand in deciding what was played.

If anyone has an extra ticket for the next two days, I will fly down and pay twice the ticket price...let me know.
peace

Posted by dale jenkins | January 26, 2006 10:13 PM

Damn, that was a good show.

Posted by Dylan | January 27, 2006 9:01 AM

the thursday show was incredible. they played for about 2 hours 15 minutes or so i believe. came on at about 9. setlist consisted of all the good things, except windsurfing nation which they claim they haven't learned yet and another song they claimed to not know (can't remember the name).

Posted by stantonandorchard | January 27, 2006 9:53 AM

Did they play Hotel?

Posted by Anonymous | January 27, 2006 10:02 AM

Yea, They played Hotel towards the end of their Set.

The show last night at Webster was the first BSS show that I've seen, and I've gotta say, it was F'ing awesome. The first 30 mins of their set was probably the most impressive I've seen. The horns were almost as tight as the girls on stage.

Does anyone have a full setlist from last night?

Posted by Fritz | January 27, 2006 10:12 AM

so who was there? other than emily?

Posted by Anonymous | January 27, 2006 10:22 AM

'all the good things' would that include Shampoo Suicide? because that would be splendid.

Posted by Captain Furface | January 27, 2006 10:35 AM

the set was superb last night. loved the improv Webster Hall club beat.

...any pics out there?

Posted by fruitloop | January 27, 2006 11:01 AM

I missed the first song, so if someone can add that we'd have the full setlist. This is what I had:

shorelines
fire eyed boy
kc accidental
stars and sons
major label debut (slow)
handjobs for the holidays
superconnected
cause = time
Ibi
Almost Crimes
major label debut (fast)
backyards
Anthems
Bandwitch
Hotel
Swimmers
Lover's Spit *
It's All gonnna break

* with One Love, With or Without You teases from Kevin. He made a couple U2 jokes throughout the night: "Once you've heard one U2 song you've heard them all"

They hit the stage really close to 9:00 and played until about 11:10. Incredible as usual.

Posted by Brad | January 27, 2006 11:05 AM

major label debut (slow) = thumbs up
major label debut (fast) = thumbs down

Posted by Anonymous | January 27, 2006 11:10 AM

So was there an opener last night? I'm going tonight and want to know what time to get there. As someone else mentioned, the less time waiting the better. I can't wait!!!

Posted by Anonymous | January 27, 2006 11:18 AM

If they went on at 9:00 last night, they should be on by 7:30 tonight and Saturday

Posted by brooklynvegan | January 27, 2006 11:22 AM

major label debut (fast & slow) = both thumbs up...

if you want to see some pictures from thursday's show, go to www.flickr.com/photos/lewislfowler - i was pretty far back though. however, there are some good stage shots.

it was my 6th time seeing bss (previous shows at northsix, nyu, bowery 2x, central park) and it was as good as always. webster hall's light show suits bss well, but otherwise, webster hall blows. even kevin said so as the bass came booming from downstairs up into the venue during one of the song's violin intros.

i hope to be back and see 'em saturday. anyone got tickets?

Posted by lewislfowler | January 27, 2006 1:24 PM

if anyone has spare ticket ill double it and pay for alcohol
...yes im desperate...

Posted by john | January 27, 2006 2:09 PM

i was just on ticketweb and they seemed to have tickets for the friday show......

Posted by andrea | January 27, 2006 2:53 PM

BSS tix for tonight are onsale at ticketweb

Posted by Anonymous | January 27, 2006 3:06 PM

Last night they were releasing tickets at the Webster Hall box office. Was $25 without all the fees.

Posted by drewo | January 27, 2006 4:07 PM

Any word on AFTERPARTY? I wanna hang with Emily!!

Posted by closetocfan | January 27, 2006 4:10 PM

On a more important note, thank fuck she wasn't wearing a headband made out of and old piece of string like every second kid on the Misshapes photo pages. Go Miss Haines! Who knows though, maybe she punched someone out and stole their shoelaces in a fit of pique later on.

Seriously people this headband thing has gone too far. No to the tyranny.

I'm surprised they let Emily in Misshapes. Don't they have a 27" waist door policy?

Posted by brwnfrwn | January 28, 2006 10:36 AM

Thanks, tio. Nice pictures. I still can't get over how great the show was. I wish I was enough of a dick to blow off my plans tonight and go again. It is an early show...

Posted by Dylan | January 28, 2006 12:10 PM

i went to the show last night and found the sound to be off. i was about 8 feet back from the stage, dead center, and the bass was overwhelming at times with the vocals too low. Anyone else notice this? What is the best spot for sound in Webster? I am going back tonight and want to hear the vocals more clearly. thanks.

Does anybody know what time BSS started on Friday night?

Posted by jay | January 28, 2006 1:32 PM

Posted by P | February 8, 2006 10:45 PM
