Blacklisted, Gods & Queens, Tiger Flowers & Chambers @ Cake Shop in NYC - pics
words by BBG, photos by Brian Reilly

The progressive hardcore of Blacklisted and the noisy post-hardcore of Gods & Queens crash landed in NYC on Saturday, March 6th, at Cake Shop as part of a BV/1000 Knives production. Support came from dissonant hardcore greats Tiger Flowers and stoner punks Chambers. It was Blacklisted's second appearance in close to two months (last time was with The Hope Conspiracy). The show was one of the last of a string of dates for Blacklisted and Gods & Queens, culminating in a final homecoming show the next night in Philadelphia.
Blacklisted are one of many bands scheduled to play United Blood in Richmond, Virginia on March 26t. Also on the bill: Madball, Death Threat, Mind Eraser, Paint It Black, Alpha and Omega, and many others.

Kreator & Voivod played Nokia Theatre in NYC w/ Evile & Nachtmystium (pics), continue on tour (SXSW & other dates)
words by BBG, photos by Samantha Marble
Snake of Voivod!

As Kreator took the stage to "Choir of the Dammed," you could feel the excitement and adrenaline building in the venue. The band played with dead on accuracy, flawlessly mixing favorites from all eras to celebrate their 25th year in existence. There was extensive headbanging and a barrage of devil horns being thrown by the masses all night long. During the night, Mille informed us that after this leg of the tour, Kreator are heading back to Europe to do some summer festivals and then Kreator will get working on a new album.A veritable thrash-topia converged at Nokia Theater on 3/6 when legends Kreator shared the stage with Voivod, Evile, Lazarus AD, and the not-thrash-but-still-great Nachtmystium. The show was part of an ongoing tour for the thrash legends, which will terminate soon and culminate in Voivod taking on Austin during SxSW. The band is scheduled to play the official Relapse showcase on 3/17 at Red 7 but will also play the BrooklynVegan/M for Montreal party at Galaxy Room on 3/20 (at the same time as our Red 7 party... decisions).
Kreator played roughly an hour and twenty minutes and as the night came to a close, Mille had every voice in the venue bellowing "HATE" to introduce 'Flag of Hate" because when in New York at a Kreator concert on a Saturday night, how else do you show appreciation for the German Thrash veterans? - [MetalMachine.net]

Kraut reuniting for a NYC show again
by BBG
Warning: objects in picture may be older than they appear. Kraut in 1981

On June 11, 1981, Kraut made their first ever public performance, opening for The Clash at Bonds, and from that point on, theres no turning back. Though young (Johnny 13, Davey 15, Doug 18, and Don 22), they committed themselves to an irreversible course of action... [playing] a club called A-7, Maxs Kansas City, and just about anyplace that could hold a few punks. In August 1981, Kraut released their first single "Kill For Cash" B/W True Colour and Just Cabbage" , the songs from the original demo for The Clash, now re-recorded with the help of Ryk Oakley(producer).... Kraut was working on their first LP [An Adjustment to Society] , and Jones [Steve Jones of Sex Pistols] accepted their invitation to play on 3 cuts... This led [to]... several live appearances with Kraut [and Jones], joining them onstage to close the set with the LP tracks as well as a unbelievable version of " Bodies", Steves favorite Sex Pistols song. There have been a few reunions of NYC punks Kraut in recent memory (including last year at Gramercy with HR), but the band will reunite again for an NYC show on 3/27 at Cake Shop with The Krays, YDI, Everyday Dollars, Step 2 Far, and About To Break. Show flyer and some videos are below...
Kraut kept themselves in the public eye by touring the states. Self financed the tour lost money, but kept the band in the public eye. Taking tapes theyd made over the previous... months, they assembled their second album, "Whetting The Scythe". Enigma Records released the album in November 1984. A tour of the west coast with CHANNEL 3 , saw the year in right. But all was not right Doug Holland... wasnt happy with the niche Kraut had carved for itself in the music world... [and left] to join Cro-Mags. ... Chris Smith, formerly of Battalion of Saints [joined] and ...in the Summer 1985 Kraut went back in the studio to finish 4 songs they started before Doug left. ...They were rehearsing for recording their third album when fate took a turn. Chris Smith died in a freak accident slipping in the tub hitting his head and drowning.. - [Kraut Bio]

108 at Burning Fight Book Release (photo by Matt Miller)

New album from a reunited band. Its easy to be skeptical, and before I heard a note of their 2007 reunion LP A New Beat from a Dead Heart, I was. But hardcore greats 108 quickly extinguished the flame of doubt and proved that not only did they still have something to say, they could say it with a fury not dissimilar from their pre-breakup incarnation.
Now 108, the crew will serve up another platter of furious hardcore with their new LP 18.61 laid down "in the analog domain of Alex Garcia Rivera (ex-Give Up The Ghost)" with Kurt Ballou mixing down the proceedings. The record is due on Deathwish and the tracklisting is still to come, but the title track makes it's first appearance here and is downloadable above, along with "Forever Is Destroyed" which recently appeared on the Deathwish Sampler. Stream more at their Deathwish audioplayer, including the supremely discordant/badass "God Talk". The record marks the first appearance of former-and-now-current The Red Chord drummer Mike Justain. (Justain also did time with Trap Them, Unearth, and Backstabbers Inc, among others)
In other news, Rob Fish recently announced his involvement in Eshas a new project featuring Aaron Edge (Iamthethorn, Himsa, etc). "Your Empty Dying Days" (above) is the first song to bubble to the surface with "more to come, whenever the urge hits".
Rob Fish's old project Ressurection will get a deluxe discography treatment via Deathwish. Look for I Am Not: The Discography to appear on the label later this year. Members of Ressurection has gone on to feature members of Lifetime, Deadguy, Floorpunch, The Van Pelt, Paint It Black and many others.
Album art and some live video, including video of 108 performing "18.61" live at Santos last year, is below. For more info on some of the ideas behind 108, check out guitarist Vic Dicara's blog.

Iron Maiden & Dream Theater - 2010 Tour Dates (MSG)
by BBG
Bruce Dickinson shows his patriotism (more by Hardcore Shutterbug)

Iron Maiden are back on the road for a string of US dates in support of The Final Frontier, their new LP due in "late summer". The tour will stretch from June through July with Dream Theater and include PNC Bank Arts Center on 7/11 and MSG on July 12th. Fanclub presales are ongoing, and the general public get a crack at them on Saturday (3/6) at 10 AM.
About the shows the band says:
"We're still working on the set list for these summer shows, but this time it will cover the whole history of the band, and I can hint that we will be playing a taster from the new album. We already have the designs for the new Final Frontier stage show which we are building to bring out with us, so this summer tour will be a bit of a preview for the fans. It's certainly looking very spectacular at this stage and with a brand new Eddie and an amazing light show!"I just have one question... with all these tour dates, are they using the plane? Full dates and some videos are below..."We are also trying to ensure that our fans get the tickets they want close to the stage without paying over the odds to ticket scalpers. This is something our manager Rod is working hard on so we hope to see many more familiar faces down the front having a great time. We will see you all soon"

Alcest coming to the US - 2010 dates include Studio w/ Woe
by BBG
DOWNLOAD: Alcest - "Percées De Lumière" (MP3)

Alcest is a French band created by Neige (also in Amesoeurs, Peste Noire and Forgotten Woods) in early 2000. ...The first chapter of this journey was Le Secret EP, which was released in 2005 by Drakkar Productions. In 2007, Neige agreed to a contract with the German label Prophecy Productions and released Alcest's debut album Souvenirs d'un autre monde the same year. All music/lyrics/artwork are deeply linked to Alcest's concept and aim at depicting that "place" and the ecstatic feelings one can experience there. This project is a real quest, a perpetual wandering through unknown regions, the hope of which is to shed some light on some mysteries of this esoteric experience.Even though Neige has decidedly black metal roots, Alcest has a lot more in common with the dream pop of Cocteau Twins than the buzzsaw guitars of Darkthrone, as exhibited on the critically acclaimed (and awesome) Souvenirs D'un Autre Monde. As previously mentioned, now Alcest is prepping to release a new album, Écailles De Lune, due on Prophecy Productions at the end of this month and currently up for preorder. The release will serve as a launchpad for "Lunar Abysses Over North America", a short tour in April which includes The Studio at Webster Hall on 4/29 with Woe and Have a Nice Life. Tickets are on sale.
Full tour dates, tour flyer and a youtube clip of "Écailles De Lune (Part I)" from the new album are all below.
